Advanced Osteotomies & Techniques to Address High Grades of Patella Luxation
Oct. 7-8, 2024
This course, led by veterinary orthopedic specialists, focuses on advanced techniques to treat grade 3 and 4 patella luxations in dogs, covering procedures like Distal Femoral Ostectomy, Tibial Torsion Osteotomy, Trochleoplasty/Sulcoplasty, Tibial Tuberosity Transposition, and Patelloplasty. Participants will practice these techniques in hands-on labs and must review relevant anatomy and orthopedic instrumentation, with prior bone plating experience required.
ABOUT THIS COURSE
Patella luxations are a common developmental orthopedic disease in both small and large breed dogs. Underlying skeletal abnormalities such as femoral varus, femoral torsion and tibial torsion will typically lead to severe grades of patella luxation. Thus, providing axial alignment of the extensor apparatus (that is, the quadriceps mechanism) is paramount.
Join veterinary orthopedic surgical specialists to focus on the causes, pathology, and treatment of grade 3 and 4 patella luxation in dogs and cats. In this hands-on course, you will learn advanced techniques to stabilize medial patellar luxations to ensure axial alignment and less chance of luxation post-operatively.
Participants will review and practice the approach to the stifle joint as well as learn these patella luxation repair techniques:
Distal Femoral Ostectomy
Tibial Torsion Osteotomy
Trochleoplasty/Sulcoplasty
Tibial Tuberosity Transposition using the new TTTT2 jig
Patelloplasty
Participants will find it helpful to review pertinent anatomy and orthopedic instrumentation before attending this course. Previous experience with bone plating is a required prerequisite
Learning Objectives
Following successful completion of this advanced patella luxation course, participants will be able to:
- Identify the underlying skeletal abnormalities associated with grade 3 and grade 4 patella luxation
- Successfully manage patients with excessive femoral angulation and torsional angles with Distal femoral ostectomy (DFO)
- Successfully manage patients with Excessive Tibial Torsion with Torsion correction osteotomy and TTTT2
- Successfully manage patients with patella luxation and concurrent cranial cruciate ligament injuryoming soon!
