Surgical Management of Patella Luxation

This introductory course teaches the fundamentals of diagnosing and grading medially luxating patella, and develops skills for its surgical treatment based on etiology and pathology. The two-day laboratory focuses on managing grade 2 patella luxation, improving sulcoplasty and tibial tuberosity transposition techniques, and includes discussions on co-managing with cruciate ligament injury and treating grades 3 to 4.
ABOUT THIS COURSE
This introductory course is designed to teach the fundamentals for successful diagnosis and grading of the patient with medially luxating patella. The participant will develop the skills for surgical treatment of the patient with patella luxation based on etiology and pathology of the disorder. The focus of the two-day laboratory exercises will be on the surgical management of grade 2 medially luxating patellae with tips on improving sulcoplasty and tibial tuberosity transposition techniques. In addition, there will be discussions on co-managing patella luxation with cruciate ligament injury, as well as assessing and treating Grade 3 to 4 patella luxation.
Learning Objectives
Following successful completion of this course, the participant will:
- Have the ability to diagnose and grade medial patella luxation.
- Have the skills and knowledge to manage grade 1-2 medial patella luxation using “traditional” surgical techniques such as sulcoplasty and tibial tuberosity transposition
- Have the knowledge to assess when the “traditional” techniques are not indicated as in Grade 3 and 4 patella luxation cases and what osteotomy procedures might be required.
- Know how to co-manage patella luxation and concurrent cruciate ligament injury.

PACKING TIPS
- Scrubs are available upon your arrival if needed.
- Closed-toe shoes are required during labs.

- Valid ID - We highly recommend you carry your ID at all times in Las Vegas.
TRANSPORTATION DETAILS
- Airport Pick up: Available on request, 24 hours, 7 days a week. Please contact the hotel at once you've retrieved your luggage, and your hotel will let you know where to wait for the shuttle.
- Transportation from your hotel to the Harry Reid Airport: You will need to sign up at the front desk. These shuttles run once an hour. They will ask you to sign up no less than 2 hours before expected departure.
TRANSPORTATION
Viticus Group transportation includes shuttle pick-up prior to the start of your course start time and a short ride to the Viticus Center. At the close of each day, our shuttle will take you back to the Hotel.
Last Day Transportation: Shuttle provided both to the airport, and back to the Hotel. (Luggage storage available on campus)
If you are a Las Vegas local, or are driving yourself to the course, please arrive to the Oquendo Campus 30 minutes before the start time.

Public transportation in Las Vegas is limited.
If you are staying somewhere other than our preferred partner, you will need to arrange for your transportation to and from the Viticus Center. If you are renting a car, Mandalay Bay, Luxor, and several other hotels on the strip may charge for parking. Other transportation options for getting around are taxi service, Uber and Lyft.
