This 2.5-day course is designed to teach participants the technical aspects of a variety of canine and feline soft tissue and orthopedic surgery procedures. Some theory will be included in the lectures, but the emphasis will be placed on the technical aspects used to perform each procedure thus maximizing time in the lab. Topics have been chosen that represent surgical conditions commonly seen in veterinary practice. By the end of this course participants should have a thorough understanding of how to successfully perform a variety of practical soft tissue and orthopedic surgery techniques; recent developments and new techniques in soft tissue and orthopedic surgery; the instructors philosophical and technical views on the surgical procedures performed in the lab; and regional anatomy related to each surgical procedure.

Courtyard Lodging Includes: 

  • Airport Pick up: Available on request, 7 days a week starting at 6:00a and ending at 10:00p
  • Guests will need to call the hotel upon arrival (702.434.4700) after they pick up their luggage. At that time, we will inform them of the area they will be picked up and we will send the shuttle driver.
  • Airport drop-off: All drop-offs are every two hours, starting at 6:00a and ending at 10:00p. Please sign up at the front desk at least 1 hour prior to departing.
  • Shuttle service to Las Vegas Strip: Pickups and drop-offs are outside the Mandalay Bay Tour and Trolley stop.

  • Please sign up at the front desk at least 1 hour prior.
  • Ground transportation to/from hotel and Viticus Center.
  • Be ready at the Courtyard hotel lobby 30 minutes in advance of course start time and board the van for the short ride to the Viticus Center. View Map.
  • Return to the hotel at the end of the instructional day.

TRANSPORTATION

Public transportation in Las Vegas is limited. If you are staying somewhere other than our preferred partner you will need to arrange for your transportation to and from the Viticus Center. If you are renting a car, Mandalay Bay, Luxor, and several other hotels on the strip may charge for parking. Other transportation options for getting around are taxi service, Uber and Lyft.

PACKING TIPS

  1. Scrubs are available upon your arrival if needed.

  2. Closed-toe shoes are required during labs.

  3. A light sweater for indoor areas.

  4. Plenty of sunscreen.

  5. Electronic charging device to power up.

  6. Valid ID - We highly recommend you carry your ID at all times in Las Vegas.

Kristin Coleman

Kristin Coleman

Dr. Kristin Coleman graduated summa cum laude with the Biomedical Sciences Dean’s Medal and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from Auburn University in 2008. She then graduated summa cum laude with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and the ACVS Surgery Proficiency award from Auburn UniversityCollege of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. Kristin went on to complete a general rotating internship at the Animal Medical Center in Manhattan in 2013. She completed her small animal surgery residency at and earned a Master of Science degree from Colorado State UniversityVeterinary Teaching Hospital in 2016, and a few months later, she became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (DACVS-SA) in 2017. Kristin worked for a few years as a surgeon at a busy private practice specialty hospital in Brooklyn, NY before making the move to Houston, TX, where she has now worked for several years as a surgeon at an even busier private practice specialty hospital, Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists (GCVS). In her spare time, she loves traveling to teach for these lectures / labs, volunteering with the zoo, running, and spending time with her husband, 3 cats, and tiny brown dog.
